Problem

From tire gauges to digital multimeters, they function similarly but their application creates a wide range of nuance outside of appearances.

Users face confusion and decision paralysis finding the right product for them thus affecting the ability to buy direct versus other online retailers.

Ideate & Goals

As the sole Designer, I strived to generate a comprehensive and interactive tool to narrow down results.

By reducing user confusion and decision paralysis, the design will allow the user to continue using the site and in turn improve CTA toward purchase.

Iterate

I received mixed feedback from choosing a full solid color background to tedious clicking/tapping multiple options as the first screen.

My initial design included the brand’s color to reinforce brand recognition. Multiple checkboxes to give users choice at the beginning and cover any suitable applications sooner than later. Large text and large buttons in consideration of user demographic who frequently purchases our products.

After many long walks around the business park, I realized what was most important when it came to UI.

Current Design

Upon revising, straightforward pathways were deemed favorable for users.

Narrowing down to a quiz format reduced time users spent thinking of how many options to select versus which options to choose.

Key Takeaways

As one of my first solo designs, it has definitely given the challenges I sought for. I had fun drafting different screens and how each interaction should respond until it was time to build and test the prototype.

It took many tries for the right answers to populate until it finally functioned logically.

Working alongside with Customer Service, Product Testing, and Copywriting teams ensured the quality of answers and interactions of the design is right for the user.
